Clare Barnes
Head of Corporate Development
Clare manages Barnes IP operations, is a Mental Health First Aider, plus the company representative at IP Inclusive, helping promote equality, diversity and inclusion, along with encouraging girls to follow STEM careers. Clare also manages recruitment and HR, and runs Barnes IP Training, delivering training courses to part-qualified patent attorneys working towards their professional exams.
Philip Barnes
Founding Partner, Chartered UK & European Patent Attorney, UPC Representative & UK IP Litigator
Phil is a Patent Attorney with experience in both private practice and in-house. He can advise and assist in the creation and management of IP portfolios, as well as providing commercially-focussed advice on existing IP and inform IP strategy. Phil is also an ex-P6/FD4 examiner and creates/runs IP training courses for the CIPA FD4 examination and sits on the CIPA Commercialisation Committee. Since the creation of The Earthshot Prize, Phil has been involved in reviewing the IP portfolios of nominees and making sure the publicity surrounding their nomination does not negatively impact the protectability of their ideas.
Liz Cox
Head of Marketing
Experienced marketing communications manager, with over twenty years’ technical and creative industry knowledge, Liz can bring a brand to life with her mix of content creation, design, product marketing, brand management, events, social media and public relation skills.
Sue McCausland
Consultant Patent Attorney
Susan had an established career as a patent attorney in Australia before emigrating to Europe to continue in the profession. She has diverse experience in the electronics fields, but with a particular focus on telecommunications, software and medical inventions. Having trained in multiple jurisdictions, she provides a global viewpoint to the patenting process.
Abby Minns
IP Solicitor and Litigator
Abby is a solicitor specialising in IP law, with over 13 years’ experience. With a first-class honours degree in Biochemistry, Abby has significant experience across many industries, including pharmaceuticals, life sciences, digital media and telecommunications. Abby’s an experienced IP litigator and has broad experience working on patent, trade mark, copyright and database right litigation. She can also provide strategic advice in connection with the protection and exploitation of clients’ IP assets, such as advising on brand management issues or advising on patent portfolios.
Simon Sellars
Trade Mark Attorney & IP Solicitor
Simon is a Solicitor with over 15 years of experience across all areas of intellectual property generation, protection, commercialisation and enforcement. He has previously dual-qualified as a Trade Mark Attorney, and manages international trade mark portfolios for businesses of all sizes and across all industries.
